As I was browsing through the web searching for some background articles on malaria and Zambia (which I have learned is a relative success story of sorts), I came across a well-done piece entitled “Bedlam in the Blood: Malaria” by Michael Finkel. It is the type of article that can be appreciated by both the malaria neophyte, as it explains malaria in simpler terms, and the malaria researcher. The article has depth and tackles malaria as a complicated problem and, like any National Geographic piece should, is accompanied by outstanding photos. Finkel does an excellent job of reviewing past efforts of malaria control and treatment. The article, originally published in July 2007, can be found here.
